How to make it happen
Find people interested in the action – form a team! Define your concrete aims: what can you actually change in your local environment, community? Be optimistic – sometimes the only limits we have are the limits of our imagination. Define target group: only students? Other people in town? Cooperate with other antennae and make it a national or even international event? Define the scope of the action: one or more days? Just some lectures + discussion? A photo exhibition? 2-day long hike/excursion? With your team, specify theme, activities, task division. Find partners: local environmental NGOs, environmental teaching staff at university for support – cooperate! For funding: local authorities, university, a company who wants a „greener” image? Ask EnWG, maybe we can help. Promotion: posters (self-made from recycled paper, hand writing – make them different from other posters), mailing lists (find partners: eg Environmental Education Centre in Tartu -> distributed information in their mailing list), visit classes (wear a t-shirt with the logo of the event at university). Trust and believe in the things you do! (create personal positive environment for yourself J) Possible activities: 1. introductive lecture or/and movie or/and debate + discussion 2. practical workshops (how to save money and environment – reusing, recycling, etc) 3. students who are doing their research or thesis about environmental related subjects presenting their work (a mini conference) 4. making questionnaires among students, other people in town or having students questioning town people (testing environmental awareness) 5. ways to make your university more environmental friendly (organise recycling, organic products into canteen, energy saving light bulbs into lecture rooms etc) – first evaluate what is possible in your university, and then make it happen! If your antenna has an office, take a critical look at it as well! 6. one-day photo competition (e.g. Find the most beautiful natural place around university campus or Find the most ugly polluted place in town) -> gala and awards in the evening + party (with ecological beer or example) 7. longer photo competition before, exhibition during week, find attractive and interesting place for showing the photos – canteens, halls of university, on the town hall square, on the streets etc 8. environmental city rally (find the cheapest organic juice in town, count the bushes in park X, etc) -> awards + party in the evening 9. thematic parties („bring your own cup”, special dress-codes etc) 10. actions: tree planting, site cleaning etc 11. excursions, study trips, hikes to natural parks, protected areas or polluted sites |
